Student Equipment Grant 2011 Winners
Jasper Donker of Utrecht University and Evely Aparicio of Deltares are the winners of the first and second price.
The winner of the first price of the Student Equipment
Grant is Jasper Donker. Jasper is working on his PhD at the University of
Utrecht under supervision of Dr. Gerben Ruessink. They will use both an AWAC wave and current profiler and an Aquadopp HR
Profiler for experiments near shore at Egmond with a focus on long waves. Jasper will also use an Aquadopp HR Profiler for studies
of wave damping and sediment mixing over mussel beds. The first price is the use
of an instrument during three months and a travel budget of € 1.000 to present
results at a scientific conference.
The winner of the second price is Evelyn Aparicio. Evelyn is working on her
PhD at Deltares and the University of Eindhoven under supervision of Dr. Rob
Uittenbogaard. Evelyn is trying to measure turbulent flows in the near proximity
of bubbles plumes. The first part of these experiments are performed to find the
best instrument to use under these difficult conditions with many bubbles,
acoustic noise and high variability of currents. The second part is to actually
perform the measurements The second price is the use of an instrument during a
period of some two months.
With the Student Equipment Grant we make available instruments which would
otherwise maybe not accesible for graduate and PhD students. We honour
especially innovative and challenging measurement applications
