SeaDarQ monitors currents around 20 mln m2 of sand
The Sand Motor is an innovative method for coastal protection. The Sand Motor (also known as Sand Engine) is a huge volume of sand that will be applied along the coast of South-Holland at Ter Heijde in 2011. Wind, waves and currents will spread the sand naturally along the coast of South-Holland. This is called ‘Building with Nature’. The Sand Motor will gradually change in shape and will eventually be fully incorporated into the dunes and the beach. The coast will be broader and safer.
International Sales (NOR)
Part of Nortek’s success is the result of an excellent marketing and sales performance on the international market. To continue and further develop these activities, we look for a dynamic and open minded:
Environmental Monitoring Workshop
Environmental monitoring is a growing concern in Brazil, as the offshore activity continues to expand, and as the exploitation of Brazil's coastlines is increasing by the day. This is the back curtain for the one day workshop on environmental monitoring, organized by the company Okeanus Ltda. on 25 March 2009.
European user symposium
Don't miss this. If you are based in Europe and would like to meet with Nortek staff and key people within our community, Oslo is really the place to be in June.
Nortek user workshop in the Netherlands
Qmetrix organizes a workshop on current and wave measurements using Nortek instruments. The workshop will give you in depth training on products, practical use of instruments and user experiences.
NortekUSA Users Symposium
The 2009 NortekUSA Users Symposium will be held at the Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine, Florida, from 13-15 May.
20 DW Aquadopps for Seatronics UK
Nortek deepwater Aquadopp has been selected by one of the world’s leading oceanographic companies. This time Seatronics UK needed 20 deepwater current meters for a deep water pipe route study in the Mediterranean, and careful comparison between the DW Aquadopp and other single point Doppler current meters led to a decision in favor of the Aquadopp.
2010 User Symposium presentations
What a fantastic atmosphere! What an impressive list of highly interesting presentations! The 2010 User Symposium held at Nortek's main office in June was a big success in every aspect of the word, and we already look forward to next year's seminar with great enthusiasm. In the meantime you will find a list of this year's presentations here:
28 Vectrinos for Dalian University of Technology
We are pleased to see that the acceptance of the Vectrino laboratory velocimeter has reached a level where the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Dalian University of Technology can decide to purchase 28 units use in their laboratory.
Buoy in the works...
Pictured here is Nortek's Tom Christian Mortensen, whose extensive field experience has aided in developing a buoy solution that is manageable by shorthanded crews and small workboats. The complete buoy is a 1.1 meters in diameter and approximately 55 kg. Power is provided by 5 solar cells and batteries which is sufficient for winter deployments on the light deprived coast of Norway.
The CWTM Conference (20-23 March) Features Much Exciting Nortek Research
This March, Nortek will be well represented at the IEEE/OES Tenth Current, Waves and Turbulence Conference. Ten papers featuring research performed with the use of Nortek AWACs, Z-cells, Aquadopps, and Vectrinos will be presented.
Aquadopp improves HiPAP® performance
Kongsberg Maritime has developed a new system for measuring ocean currents along drilling risers. The data can be intergrated with the Kongsberg HiPAP positioning system to improve control of drilling operations.
Aquadopp Profiler Installed on WEBB Glider
Nortek has collaborated with scientists to integrate an Aquadopp Profiler on a WEBB Glider.
Aquadopps are becoming smaller
As part of an engineering effort that lasted for all of 2007, the circuit board inside the Aquadopp and the Aquadopp profiler has shrunk by about 10 cm (4 in). As a result, it is possible to fit the instrument inside smaller spaces and it is easier to integrate the instruments in OEM applications.
AWAC Used for Ship Wake Study
The Acoustic Surface Tracking (AST) capability of the AWAC was used for a comprehensive ship wake study by engineers at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, USA.
