Data spectrum

Posted by LAURA RUIZ FERRER at July 13. 2009

We are working with spectrum AWAC data. We have followed the steps recommended in ‘Export Data from STORM or SURGE’ and we obtain two spectrum file:

-          Energy spectrum

-          Spectrum contour.

But we have two questions about these files:

1.- If you Right-click on the Spectrum Contour and select "Export Data", you obtain one file with class intervals. But there aren’t the values of parameters. How do you export the value of this graph?

2.- The energy spectrum graph and the spectrum contour are related between them. Which is this relation? That is, what are the criteria to normalize the Spectrum Contour?

Thanks

Hello Laura,

1)  Yes, it is true that exporting the contour plots can be problematic. I recogmend that Storm users, who are interested in performing further analysis on the data, contact Nortek to get a license key for using the QuickWave software.  This software provides data in a format that is easily read in by MatLab.

2)  Once you have processed the data in QuickWave, you will have several files available for further analysis.  The contents of these files is described in the header file (*.WHR).  One of these files is the Full Directional Spectrum and this is the normalized (over direction) spectrum, which you are intereested -  no need to normalize with the energy spectra, which you mention in your post.

We hope to add the QuickWave functionality to Storm in the near future so that you can do all of this in one software ;)

kind regards,

Torstein
