Baud Rate

Posted by mary at July 23. 2011
Hi all,
in the manual for the vector, it has mentioned that the baud rate default is 9600 and it is better to keep it at the default value, but when I use the software, the default for baud rate is 19200. If I use 16 for sampling rate, is it ok to use 19200?

Thanks,

Baud rate and sample rate are somewhat independent. Baud rate refers to the serial communication line between the Vector and the computer. Sample rate is how fast the Vector will report velocity data.

To sample velocities quickly in a real time deployment (i.e. data collected with the Vector software and displayed on screen), you might need to set the baud rate higher. The software will display a warning if it is going to be an issue and recommend changing the baud rate to a higher setting.

I just read somewhere that if the sampling rate is higher it is better to use a higher baud rate.

What is the best start point for baud rate?

Use the default to start. If you notice problems in a real time data collection you can easily increase it.
