Re: Compass offset on a online system

We are installing an online system for monitoring currents in a small navigation buoy in front of Paranagua Harbour, south Brazil (picture attached). It will probably be the first of it's kind on our country, so we are very proud of the system. Data is transmitted through a radio modem and power is supplied by two solar panels together with a eolian generator and two big car batteries.

As we are just starting to receive the data, we've been using AWAC AST to show it for the client, but this brought us to a problem: How can we incorporate magnetic deviation to the online data using this software? We would need to set a compass offset prior to deployment, but as much as I looked for it, I can't find a way to do this using AWAC AST. Do you have a solution for this or the only way is for us to develop some routines to work with the .wpa files on real time?

Dear Pedro,

I am sorry to say that we have no such function in the AWAC AST software. The AWAC AST software is not really designed as an online software. SeaState is our software made for online monitoring. The magnetic deviation function is not implement in present version, but will be soon.

In our post processing software Storm the function is implemented.

We are considering the acquisition of SeaState for our online system, it looks great. Do you have a estimate of when the new version with magnetic deviation will be released? It´s not possible to present the data to the client without discounting the deviation from the direction data, so we might develop our own software solution. 

Just to check, we can´t put any offset while calibrating the compass or configuring the AWAC, is this right?

You can´t put any offset while calibrating the compass or configuring the AWAC.

There is no new release planned for SeaState, but if you order a copy with this request stated we can make a release for you 3-4 weeks after the order date. Does that sound OK?

Thanks, that sounds OK. I'm asking Nortek USA for a quote on SeaState, I'll put a link to this discussion to make the request for this compass offset capability. All together I'm pretty sure that this is going to be the best solution, as SeaState has that very nice visual to deliver the data, that will certainly please our client.
