Aquadopp pressures

Geplaatst door Julia Mullarney op February 03. 2010

Hi,

I know the pressure sensor on the Aquadopps is temperature dependent...this is probably a dumb question but is it easy/possible to correct the Aquadopp  pressures for these temperature variations?  Also does the sensor respond the same way in air/water?

Cheers,

Julia

Dear Julia

The pressure sensor is non-linear and it is temperature dependent.  The two varaibles are not indpendent (i.e. the non-linear terms are temperature dependent) but you can get a little closer if you include a linear temperature correction.  Please see attached graph.

The response in air and in water should be the same.

So it IS possible to correct for it.  Could you tell us how to do so?  Will future generations of current meters and profilers automatically correct for temperature so that htey give an accurate estimate of water depth?

Dear John, it is possible to correct but it has to be done individually for each sensor and only if the necessary calibration data is collected during the sensor calibration (at the manufacturer, not at Nortek).  We did it for the ADC - http://www.ott.com/web/ott_de.nsf/id/pa_adc_e.html - but we never got around to do it for the Aquadopp.
